Episode 1: Identity Challenge — Who Were You, Who Are You, Who Are You Becoming

The Resonant Identity

Published: May 13, 2026

An identity challenge from The Resonant Identity Podcasts that asks the listener to define who they are based on their past, present, and future identity.

Episode 1: Identity Challenge — Who Were You, Who Are You, Who Are You Becoming

Identity isn’t a fixed point. It’s a continuum.
— a living, evolving expression of how you understand yourself,
how you interpret your experiences,
and how you choose to move forward.

Episode 1 (dubbed 003- Inner Alignment in The Resonant Identity) introduced the foundation:
your Resonant Identity emerges when you stop defining yourself by distortion, confusion, or old narratives
and instead anchor into truth, clarity, and intentional becoming.

This follow‑up challenge is simple, reflective, and designed to help you articulate the three core layers of identity:

Who you were
Who you are
Who you are becoming

Think of this as a snapshot
— a moment of honest self‑definition that sets the stage for deeper work in later episodes.

1. Who You Were — The Past Self

This is not about judgment. It’s about clarity.

Your past self is the collection of identities you carried, consciously or unconsciously, up until now.

Reflection prompts:

  • What identities did you inherit rather than choose?

  • What roles or labels shaped how you saw yourself?

  • What beliefs about yourself felt limiting, outdated, or misaligned?

  • What patterns or narratives did you repeat because they were familiar, not true?

Optional exercise:

Write a short paragraph beginning with:

“Up until now, I saw myself as...”

2. Who You Are — The Present Self

This is your current or true identity
— the version of you that exists today, with your present clarity, values, and awareness.

Add as many things as you would like that define who you are.
- the sky is the limit here, just so long as they resonate with you.

Reflection prompts:

  • What feels true about who you are right now?

  • What values or traits feel non‑negotiable?

  • What parts of yourself feel newly awakened or rediscovered?

  • What aspects of your identity feel stable, grounded, or resonant?

Optional exercise:

Complete the sentence:

“Right now, I am someone who...”

3. Who You Are Becoming — The Future Self

This is the identity you are intentionally stepping into
— not fantasy, not aspiration, but the aligned trajectory of your Resonant Identity.

Add as many things as you would like that define who you wish to become.
- the sky is the limit here!

Reflection prompts:

  • What qualities or ways of being feel like your next evolution?

  • What identity feels aligned with your truth, not your fear?

  • What would your future self no longer tolerate, believe, or carry?

  • What identity feels expansive, grounded, and deeply you?

Optional exercise:

Write a short vision statement starting with:

“I am becoming someone who...”

Bringing It Together

When you place these three layers side by side,
you begin to see the arc of your identity
— not as a contradiction, but as a coherent progression.

You’re not abandoning who you were.
You’re integrating what was true, releasing what wasn’t, and choosing what comes next.
This challenge is meant to be simple, honest, and grounding.

Keep your answers short.
Let them be imperfect.
Let them be real.

Your Resonant Identity is already emerging
— this exercise simply gives it language.
